Student Government Association welcomed its newly elected senators to its first meeting April 9. The eight new senators were Christa Avery, David Cieply, Kady Davis, Kylie Foster, Adison Pope, Dimitri Sofias, Tricia Summers and Katy Wells.
They will join the eight returning senators for the coming fall semester. The returning senators are Miso Bak, Stefan Becker, Mei Mei Cui, Xingnan “Teddy” Guo, Tycee Mohler, Daniel Russell, Wednesday Storm and Zhongyn “Peter” Zhang.
In other SGA business, the group amended its own constitution. The constitution had said only a returning senator could run for office. Mike Wondrash, current SGA president, had to break the constitutional rules when he ran for office as the returning members of SGA at the time had no interest in running for office.
The amendments were presented to the group a week before they could be ratified, and after they are ratified, nominations for president and vice president teams were taken. Becker is running for president with current treasurer Mohler as his running mate for vice president. Becker is an engineering major and on the basketball team while Mohler is an agriculture business/animal science major.
Also running is Russell with running mate Avery. Russell, a computer science major, works at the LCCC help desk. Avery, a residence hall adviser, is a secondary education major. Avery is new to SGA.
The new president and vice president will take over on April 30.
