The Student Government Association planned a Halloween Bash at its Sept. 18 meeting.
On Oct. 30 a costume contest, pumpkin-carving contest, and other events will be held in the student lounge. The festivities will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. SGA will set committees for the event.
To enter the costume contest, contestants must have their picture taken, and then they can spend the rest of the time enjoying the other events taking place.
In the Sept. 25 meeting, the Student Government Association welcomed a guest to the meeting. New to Laramie County Community College, Judy Hay, vice president of student services, is acquainting herself with the campus and its organizations. She spoke briefly about her main assignments: improving the way scholarships are distributed and improving customer service on campus.
Hay is also associated with a project that wants LCCC to move away from general studies as a major. The Bridge Committee report mentioned student opinions were being sought on the matter. The college is looking to move students into thinking more about their future and their major because general studies is not conducive to planning a longtime career.
The newly elected president, Mike Wondrash, said SGA is operating well this semester. He said the new personalities are meshing well, and everyone is learning how to cooperate with one another.
When asked how it felt to be at the head of the table, Wondrash responded: “Weird. I am a shy person. Ask any of my friends.” But the shy president said he is looking forward to the Halloween Bash and thinks it will be a fun event. Although he has not decided on a costume, he may just come as SGA president.
